BBGS Gala Reunion

To all former BBGS or Bukit Bintang Girls School student, there will be a Gala Reunion on 4 August 2009. The Reunion will be at Pavilion, Bukit Bintang where the school once stood.

For those who don't know, BBGS was previously located at where Pavilion in Jalan Bukit Bintang now stands. It was demolished in 2001 as the area was no longer conducive for a school, with the mushrooming of shopping complexes and hotels nearby. Although the school building no longer stands, the spirit lives on. It would be a historic event for all of us to gather once again at our former school premises i.e. Pavilion on 4th August 2009 to not only meet old and lost friends but also for the launching of Elena Cooke Education Fund, the former headmistress of BBGS.

The highlight of the event will be the launch of the fund at 11am with Miss Cooke as the guest of honour. Souvenirs and cupcakes will be sold to raise funds and there will be an exhibition featuring the early pioneers of BBGS, who were all women! :)

HIGHLIGHTS OF PROGRAMME FOR BACK2BBGS – 4 August 2009
Launch of the Elena M. Cooke Fund
Time: 11am-12pm, 4 August
Guest of Honour: Miss Elena M Cooke (BBGS Headmistress, 1958-1977)

Butterfly Cake

A pink butterfly theme cake for a lovely 1 year old Aina. The cake is orange butter cake with buttercream icing. The butterfly on top of the cake is piping gel. The cake weights around 1.5kg.

Transformers Edible Image Cake

This really is the season for Transformers cake as I keep getting orders for Transformers design cake. This week, I had fun baking and decorating another Transformers cake. The little boy requested for a Bumblebee cake and for this cake, I had used edible image of Bumblebee for the picture. Its a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache topping and for the ganache, I used Callebaut chocolate which was naturally very delicious. :). The cake itself was quite heavy, an almost 2kg cake.

Salam Salwa, Attended to Lapis Sarawak class last week, wonderful , very generous of you. Thanks for the teaching, though it was a bit confusing initially, but with the extra pieces of 'inti' you gave out for practise, I went home and tried it with my daughter. I got it right. I did another 'inti' yesterday and hope I can continue with the lapis atas & bawah today. I will bring the cake to Malaysia for Hari Raya Haji. Wonderful! Thanks & Rgds SitiDahlia(attended Lapis Sarawak, cupcakes, ice-cream classes)

Hi SalwahYes, the class is interactive & I like the Hands-On SessionFarida Yasin(attended Lapis Sarawak & Swiss Roll Classes)

Hi Salwah, your class interacts well and I’m glad you always have the hands-on part, at least we can try on the spot and hear your comments.Anyway I’ve enjoyed my lessons & gain some experience.Masni Mohd

I enjoyed the lapis sarawak class last week and after clarifying with you I find the recipe is easy to understand and flexible. I like the hands-on session as we can try to do it on the spot . The texture of the cake is moist. I let my family tried it and they like it very much.Hamidah

I attended yr Kek lapis sarawak last month, the recipe was simple and easy tounderstand. After attending yr class, I went back and open-up my lapis sarawak book which I bought few months back...... now I understand how to do the lapis.....Without hand-on its quite difficult to understand for beginners like me.
Thank you for patience in teaching me.Kak Intan

Durian Cake

Durian season is back and last weekend I tried a new recipe - Durian cake with durian fresh cream. It was delicious since the durian was fresh. I will make one again next weekend and perhaps try durian icecream. :)
