Baby Cupcakes (Aqiqah)

For an aqiqah recently, I had the opportunity to decorate the cupcakes resembling babies faces, booties and milik bottles. The baby face design was inspired from Paris Cutler's book and I really had fun decorating these.... And so does my children, who kept me entertained at the table with their own version of baby faces. The cupcakes were packed in twos in an adorable pink boxes ready to be given to guests on the memorable day. Congratulations Natasha on your new baby girl! :)

So, here's the lil buckets filled with cupcakes and cookies ready to wow guests at sweet Mel's birthday party. Enjoy!

Castle Cake for Ayra

My daughter's birthday is in December but since its her last days in Kindergarden before stepping into the big world, she requested that her birthday be brought forward so that she could celebrate her birthday with her friends. When asked how should I design the cake, automatically she said, "I want a Princess Castle cake. And I want it to be beautiful".

I had baked two cakes earlier and wanted to start decorating the cake Sunday morning but since my in-laws were here, my plan got sidetracked. I only started decorating them in the afternoon.

I decided on pink and purple cake and everything was going smoothly until i kneaded my fondant. That was when the "problem" started. Due to the unfavourable weather - it was humid and raining, the fondant turned soft. I did added some icing sugar to it and finally managed to cover the cakes nicely. I was decorating the 2nd tier cake, humming songs to myself with the television blaring away when I noticed that the walls that was attached to the first tier cake started to slide away. To my dismay, the fondant had turned soft! Ugh! of all days, this had to be the day the fondant decided to have a mind of its own. I mended the cake as much as I could and kept them in an air-cond room, praying that the walls would not fall down in the morning. To my huge relief, the walls stayed hard.

When my daughter woke up, she was jumping up and down admiring the cake and smiling from ear to ear. Ah! Such joy to see her face light with happiness and amazement that the hard work and late night was well worth it. I only managed to get picture of the cake as I could not wait for her to cut the cake at her school. When she came back she was still smiling telling me her friends all admired the cake and there was no leftovers.
My son's birthday is in December and he has already given me a list of the designs that he wants. :)

This is the cake, a Princess Castle for Princess Ayra's 6th birthday.

Bows and Ribbons

This lovely cake was made for the beloved mother-in-law of my client. Originally she wanted the images to be made for cupcakes but at the last minute, she changed her mind and wanted that I bake a cake instead. Since the images have been printed, I had to redesigned the cake to ensure that I can fit the few small pictures of the family onto the cake. After much pondering, I decided to do a fondant cake with bows and ribbons and the pictures pasted on top of the cake. This was how the cake turned out. Enjoy!

Chocolate Transfer Sheet

I went shopping for my baking supplies last Saturday and one of the item that I picked up apart from more Americolor brand colours and Satin Ice fondants was Transfer Sheet. I had never used a transfer sheet before and opportunity arose when I baked a chocolate cake for office raya celebration. I was quite happy with the result and since I now know what I should and should'nt do, I will be using this for more cake decorations when opportunity arises.

Police uniform

I was recently asked whether I could decorate a Malaysian police uniform cake for a retired policeman. I had never done a shirt cake before but I have seen them around. So what I did was I applied the same principle for this uniform cake.

For this cake, I used Satin Ice rolled fondant and colors from Americolor that i just bought last week. I was really happy with how the fondant and the colours turned out. Will definitely use satin ice and americolor again.

Anyway, below is the picture of the cake.

Another Ben10 cake

On Wednesday evening, I received a query asking whether I could bake a Ben10 Edible Image cake urgently for Friday. Usually edible image needs at least 3 days advance order since I need to edit the picture and get them printed. Luckily, God was smiling on me and I managed to get the edible image done within 1 day...phew!!! This got me thinking real hard. Since I do get quite a number of edible image cake orders, whether its a good investment to get the printer and accessories so that I can print the pictures on my own..if I do this, no more hassle of finding who can print the pictures for me and later picking them up :). I think I have to start searching for the printers etc...anybody out there can help me source it?

Anyway, Happy Birthday Shazril. Hope you like your Ben10 cake. :)

Manchester United

A birthday cake for a 10 year old boy who loves football especially Manchester United. The cake is shaped like a football field. I added the toy figurines of football players and goal post which I found at one of the baking supply shops. Since he loves Manchester United, I then placed an edible Man Utd logo in the middle of the field. The cake is chocolate moist cake and the grass is made from buttercream. Thank You Pn Rafidah for the order.

By the way, I love this quote that I found in the net posted by a hardcore fan of Man Utd -

"There are GOOD football teams and there are GREAT football teams. And then of course THERE IS Manchester United". :)

Hello Kitty Cake

For all Hello Kitty fans out there, here is a Hello Kitty cake baked for lovely 1 year old Aisya. This is butter cake with buttercream deco. The sides of the cakes were piped with four lovely colours: blue, green, orange and purple.

Barbie Mariposa

I had the opportunity to bake another Barbie cake last week. The lovely girl wanted a Barbie Mariposa cake and wanted me to use her doll and the wings as the main deco for the cake. Both the little girl and her mom came over to give me the doll ... without the wings :)...hmm...what should I do?

I decided then to turn the cake into wings and center the doll in the middle as if she was lying down, smiling to all....so, here goes the cake...a huge 3kg chocolate cake with buttercream decoration for lovely Giselle. Happy birthday dear! :)

To all former BBGS or Bukit Bintang Girls School student, there will be a Gala Reunion on 4 August 2009. The Reunion will be at Pavilion, Bukit Bintang where the school once stood.

For those who don't know, BBGS was previously located at where Pavilion in Jalan Bukit Bintang now stands. Although the school building no longer stands, the spirit lives on. It would be a historic event for all of us to gather once again at our former school premises i.e. Pavilion on 4th August 2009 to not only meet old and lost friends but also for the launching of Elena Cooke Education Fund, the former headmistress of BBGS.

The highlight of the event will be the launch of the fund at 11am with Miss Cooke as the guest of honour. Souvenirs and cupcakes will be sold to raise funds and there will be an exhibition featuring the early pioneers of BBGS, who were all women! :)

HIGHLIGHTS OF PROGRAMME FOR BACK2BBGS – 4 August 2009
