Kebaya cake

What do you give to a soft spoken lady who loves fashionable items in particular the tradisional malay kebaya for her birthday? ........ a pink Kebaya cake of course :).

Mini Cooper anyone?

I had never done a 3D car cake before and when I was commissioned to do one, I was both excited and scared...scared that the cake would not resemble a mini cooper. To do a 3D cake that needs to be carved, I had to change my normal buttercake recipe to something that would result in a heavy and denser cake. This way, the cake would not crumble when its put under the knife :).

Armed with a sharp serrated knife and pictures of a mini cooper in different angle, I started my mission. Let me tell you, it was hard work trying to make sure the bumps were at the correct places and harder still to ensure that all the finer details such as the handles were properly molded.

I was quite worried at first after I carved the cake as I could not see the resemblance but after the fondant was placed on the cake together with the other details, the cake came to life bit by bit. It was such a joy when I finished decorating it ..... 6 hours later!. And I was all smile when my son exclaimed, "Mr Bean's car". Mission accomplished :).

Under the Sea / Mermaid

A friend of mine requested me to bake a cake for her daughter's birthday. She had a barbie cake in mind but I told her that a Barbie cake was quite normal nowdays. Instead I suggested that she go for something different. She was open to suggestion and I suggested why not do an under the sea theme with a mermaid topper and other sea creatures adorning the cake. She agreed and last Saturday night, I started decorating the cake for delivery on Sunday morning. At first I wanted to cut the cake into 4 and layered them on top of each other and have the mermaid swam around the cakes but then she called and said that she wanted a simple cake that was easy to cut. So I decided to just arrange the various fondant toppers on the cake and voila! this is the end result. Enjoy!

Engagement Cupcakes

Received this order from a repeat customer. This time she wanted me to do engagement cupcakes in 2 different themes - red and white and the other one black, white and silver.

Vacation - Legend International Water Homes

Since it was the last week of school holiday, I decided to bring my kids to Port Dickson for a short holiday. It was an unplanned trip and we decided to scout around for the hotel rather than call and place a booking. We reached PD around 4.30pm and went to few hotels first to check out the availability and since it was school holiday, most hotels that we went were fully booked. We then drove straight to Legend International Water Homes to check out the place since there was an ad somewhere that states that every room there comes with its own private pool. I was really intrigued by it and when we arrived there, the only available room was the Sky Tower, which we grab nonetheless.

Stepping into our room was a sight indeed. The room was luxuriously furnished with 2 king size beds, its own private pool, a small kitchen with microwave oven and a separate toilet and shower that overlooks the sea.

The kids were full of ooh! and aahhh! and could'nt wait to jump into the pool which they did 5 minutes after we checked into the room. We had a great time staying here and the private pool was godsend ... no more lazing in the hot sun waiting for the kids to finish their swim. God willing, we will come back for another holiday here soon. Insyallah..
